What a lifeless forum... I think we got less popular because of the change of the forum...

But it looks so cool! How could it be less popular?

Would someone who doesn't use this forum like to post an explanation as to why they are not reading the words I am typing here?

Maybe it's because people are scared to come on the fourms...

Or they don't have time to reply...

It also could be they don't know what to say on the fourms...

Though it could be because the fourms are designed different from most fourms so they don't bother to learn how to use this fourm...

Of course there are many different reasons...

This post might not be read for another day or two then won't be responded to for maybe 3 days to a week, but I still typing it...

hahahah, somewhat agree with you "Shadow".
Hm... IDK really. We're just lifeless here. I think Comic Club actually got LESS popular...
Now I really wanna make a Manga club... but that takes so much work, and Imma need to find an advisor...
Anyway (off topic for a moment) IDK but perhaps we need to advertise a little bit more?

I'm just waiting for some one else to come in.
    Yeah, things got pretty dull.

As for the club, some people may just want to wait until the winter's over or other problems, like schoolwork.

Now I'm really thinking and suggesting that we go back to our old ways.
Both the club and the site.
It's okay to have changes but some thing are better the way they are.

Kage has a point in this arguement... a strong point.

I'll like to bring up how horribly we've been represented even by past members who shall remain nameless. But in a class where we had to do an autobiography someone actually praise themself for becoming part of the Club because they had been suggested there to "help restore us" or something.
I don't know what happened when I was gone, but someone else literally pointed out to the class "I was part of Comic Book Club, now I am not... and this year everything just isn't..." ... as it used to be. Blah, blah, blah. I found myself feeling very disrespected. And I think that if members how no respect to the club, the of course the club have no respect.
    To which...... we are lifeless.......

These are all good points. Especially what Konoha is saying about if members do not respect the Club then others will not respect the Club either. The Club is made of it's members and it is those members that determine the nature of the Club.

Artists tend to be nonconformists who question authority. I see it in every member of Comic Club even the members posting here. I am the same way which makes it easy to identify with the rebellious streak in all of you. I would speculate that the root of many of our problems is the relaxed way we started out the year and then the more recent tightening of our rules. It seems completely natural that club members would be rebelling against this.

Now it would be easy to say "Ah Ha! we must squish this rebellion and stamp it out.", but that would be going against our nature and it would not be successful. Rather it is better to let the rebellion take it's course and try to learn from it. These students feel they have legitimate complaints and maybe in their criticism we can find ways to improve our efforts.

It's important to maintain a positive attitude and with a little time we will be better for it and may even find we are enjoying ourselves.

Concerning the old forum: We were getting a lot of spam with the older software. The problem got so bad that for the last month the ability for new members to post was disabled. The only reason things continued to function was due to Shadows tireless efforts. Since switching to the new forum software we have been able to implement measures to counter act forum spammers. Switching back to the old software would mean loosing these features.

Before we give up on the new forum I would like to know specifically what was better about the old one. What do you miss most and what are a few other things you miss? Are there other forums you like to use? We won't be going back, but we could consider other solutions.

We have an image of the club being something really great in the past, but in all the previous years the club has had it's problems as well.

    • The first two years we had a hard time letting people know the club existed.
    • The first Zine did not exist until the first year was half over.
    • The first Zine had 5 comics (I drew 2 of them); the longest story was 3 pages.
    • We made The Zine completely by hand with a photocopier and no computers for the first two years.
    • Every year we have had trouble finding days when people don't have schedule conflicts.
    • Motivation and getting work done is always an issue.
    • We have meetings every once in a while where few people show up.
    • In previous years we would only meet until 3 then we extended it to 4 and last year we extended it further.
    • This is the first year anyone has tried to learn computer layout and I'm proud of every student that has attempted it.
    • Many student's who are not in the club bad mouth it because they do not know what it is and don't want to.
    • Until last year we usually made 5 publications a year and the most we had published was 7 thin issues in the first year. This year we are about to publish 5 and are on course to publish 10 again like last year.
    • Until last year the longest stories published in a single issue was 5 pages.
    • Harding Comic Club participants continue to create work that is greater in drawing ability, story telling, output, and polish than many of the best student cartoonists at other high schools.
    • For many years we didn't have a website.
    • We didn't own a domain name for the first several sites and piggy backed on other sites like: Hardingzine.juillet-love.org and Dakishime.net/hardingzine
    • The forum didn't exist until last year.

There is something wonderful in human nature that lets us forget the challenges of the past so that we can be excited for the future. You often here people reminisce about the "good old days." In that way we also run the risk of forgetting how hard things have been and not remembering that we have overcome difficult odds in the past. If we stick it out when it seems difficult we will succeed.

i don't know about most recent stuff... but I feel that last year we were most successful. I want to figure out what happened between this year and last year.

I think the biggest difference is last year there was a lot of growth and development. We had ambitions and solid plans to achieve those ambitions.

By the standards of last year we may not be as successful, but by the standards of previous years this year we have been successful.

Comic Club is successful this year, but is just doesn't seem that way in relation to last year. In stead of asking what is going wrong this year maybe we should be asking what went so right last year? Maybe is was a fluke that can not be reproduced, or maybe there are things we can reproduce again this year?

The 'rebellion' could be because we had basicly half the club members an officer of some form... They may have thought, "Hey, I'm an officer, I have POWER!" and that's when everyone started to yell at each other about how things should run... when the officers were removed, everyone thought the had next to no power so they rebeled against those in power still.

I think that if we didn't have as many officers, or give every officer a huge amount of power (like an editor messing with the way things are layed out in the zine, for example), we could still have officers.

As for people not coming that often or leaving the club... yeah, that's most likely cause of the new rules...
