Love & Pain: Romance & Horror.

Aaahhh February! Soon it will be Valentines day and with this day comes hearts and arrows; roses and chocolates, but we here at The The Zine are not so optimistic about this dark holiday feigning innocence. Valentines day is the day when hearts are broken, arrows are sharp, and the roses have thorns. Not to mention that anyone expressing true long term affection would pack you a healthy lunch not a box of chocolates! As you can see from our wonderful cover by club president Max.J. the theme for this issue of The The Zine? is Love & Pain: Romance & Horror. Read more…

We are very excited to bring you a variety of stories written by students in the Harding Comic Club. I want to bring special note to the first few pages featuring work by some of the most talented cartoonists to ever go to Harding High school.

On page 1 is a great piece by Lu² a senior who had very strong story telling skills as a freshman. She has continued to solidify a clean visual style and improve her storytelling as you can see in her piece “Zombie Romance”. Her sharp dry wit really shows in this quick little story and it is a joy to read. Read more…

We are delighted to focus on Spring Break for this fourth issue of The the Zine3.

Spring Break has often been used as a time and setting for memorable events in numerous manga. It lasts only a week, but in this small amount of time a protagonist develops and blooms like flower blossoms opening to the first rays of summer sun.

We have worked hard on these comics about Spring Break and hope that you enjoy them. Don’t worry we are all ready working hard so you can look forward to our next issue of Zine³.

We are excited to focus on romance for this issue of The The Zine³.

Romance in comics has made a comeback in the last decade. Shoujo Manga from Japan is mostly responsible for this wonderful change in what is available today. Books like Fruits Basket, Mars, and Wallflower are familiar to readers of Shoujo Manga.

Readers may be surprised to learn that America used to be the largest producer of romance comics. In the early 1950’s Romance comics outsold all other genres Read more…

The The Zine³ Volume 3 Issue 2

December 18th, 2006 No comments

This issue of The The Zine³ never had an introduction written for it. In fact up until this point It was quite rare for someone to take the time to write an introduction. Usually the final issue of the year would have some short comments to close things, but a normal issue would not.

This appears to be a holiday issue, but also pulls double duty as a Yolie tribute issue. Yolie was the chief editor of The The Zine³. She would soon promote Heero as her assistant editor and they would coax, whip, and persuade a talented group of young cartoonists to produce some nice pieces by the end of the year. Read more…

This was a fall holiday issue featuring stories about Thanksgiving, Halloween, ghosts, the end of summer, and of course pickles.

Again with these older issues there is not a lot of information about who did what so if you recognize someones work or your own put a comment on the artworks page and eventually we can give everyone credit for what they did.

Well this is the last issue of The The Zine2. Our seniors are leaving us and we will never publish another issue of The The Zine² again.

Now before you start screaming crying and trying to beat down the doors of Parliament I should inform you that this does not mean The The Zine is finished if we are lucky it will be reincarnated at some future date as a new publication with a new name.

Maybe we’ll call it The The Zine³ or The The Zine 3.0.1 or The The Zine 3D or The The Zine Revision 3? Read more…

The The Zine² Volume 2 Issue 4

When this issue was published it contained 48 pages making it the largest issue ever. That record was immediately broken by the following issue’s 56 pages a record that stood until March 11th, 2009 when Volume 4 Issue 5 came out containing 80 pages. Big issues like these tend to come out towards the end of the year as artist feel the need to finish large projects that they have been holding off on before they lose the chance of getting published.

As with other back issues feel free to leave comments to help us identify the contributors and make sure they get credit. Read more…
